I am just gonna get the Ultimate or Professional Retail DVD. I reformat so many times that , its not worth the aggravation to buy the upgrade.

I never buy "upgrades" either... just full install versions.

Old Joe,

I find your comment about upgrade discs being full versions very interesting. When I purchased Vista Premium Upgrade I was able to install it as a clean install which amounted to a full version. WinXP was not on my machine even though I do have a full version of it on disc.

So, my question is are you saying that a Win7 Upgrade can be installed as a full version?

I could not agree more Alan. I remember once having to reformat and all I had were upgrade versions of the windows OS. As I did not have a DVD non upgrade version of any windows system I could not get the OS installed, I had to go out and buy a Windows 98 DVD version to be able to get my upgrade XP back on the hard drive.

XP and Vista Upgrade discs are full versions so I'm assuming 7 will be also.

I have NO idea why anyone wants to use Vista but it can be installed using only a Vista Upgrade Disc.
Vista Upgrade discs do NOT require a previous version of Windows to do a fresh install. You simply install the OS and do NOT insert the serial number. That makes your install a "Trial".
After the install is complete, open the disc in Windows and install again. Use the serial number on the second install and there you have a complete fresh install.

No idea why anyone would one to use Vista? Wow, that says a lot ! What you have said OldJoe regarding Vista upgrade and its installation is true. Its perfectly legitimate and it works. Maybe the Win7 upgrade will also install as a full version but I think to purchase the full version somewhere in the future. For now my recent upgrade to Vista Premium satisfies all my needs.

My reason for purchasing Vista was simply out of security concerns. WinXP was the target of many sucessful hacking attempts and since Microsoft will soon stop supplying it with security updates I thought it time to buy Vista.

May I ask you why are you investing in Win7
