Default New problem with downloads Vista64

I have a really bad problem guys and girls.

I now can not download a thing using either firefox or Internet explorer.

It all started when Kaspersky found a vulnerability on my system. It was an active X file called FLASH.OCX I think ( dont know for sure now its gone ).

I downloaded the latest adobe flash updates that apparently fix this. No joy. In the end I do not know why but i just jumped to the destination and deleted the key. doh !!
Everything went fine , no system problems run CCleaner and AWC personal as per normal finding a few problems then cleaning/fixing them instantly.

Shortly after this i noticed i could not watch any online video content such as Sky Sports | Football News

I decided to reinstall the flash player and live with the thing being reported by Kaspersky. Problem is when i went to download it in firefox it just flashes the download box and thats it. When i inspect the file it is 0K in size so has not downloaded. If i click the installed i get this message:

PROBLEM Firefox download..png

I do not know what to do about this as i cannot download anything currently. ??

Also attempted to use internet explorer too. No joy either but different error for download.

INTERNET Explor download error.png

The problem is even if i lower the security of my explorer options i still get the same message. ?? WTF

I even change the thing to custom and enable file downloads and nothing .... same error.

Anyone got any help for me will be much appreciated.

McT

Hi
You could try running a program that requires Flash Player.
See if it will auto install via that.

Kaspersky alerted me to the same thing with "Flash Player" (same flash.ocx file). I followed this procedure:

How to remove old versions of Flash player

Adobe (formerly Macromedia) Flash player is one of those applications that are on every machine but you rarely see them as separate applications. Since they deal with data over the Internet Flash is also a great security risk. So it’s quite important to keep it updated.

But Flash itself will not make this task easy for you. Although it does update itself it also leaves old versions laying around on your machine. It wise to get rid of them.

Here are some hints how to accomplish that:

* Check “Add Remove Programs” and uninstall everything that smells of Flash (not flesh!)
* Goto Adobe and grab Flash Uninstaller, close all open applications including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, MSN Messenger and run it
* Go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\Macromedia\Flash\ (or equivalent path for your Windows installation) and delete all .ocx files
* Check if player is not included with other software titles. (one of those can be Adobe Bridge) Try to upgrade those applications first and hope for the best.

Now you are ready for a clean install of the latest version of Adobe Flash Player

After I did this, I installed Adobe 9 which installed these files and everything works fine. Now I'm not sure any of this can help and you are using Vista 64 and I'm using XP sp3 with firefox as well.

You could also try this .......

Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced >
"Reset Internet Explorer Settings "> Reset

This usually works to fix most things ... but it will reset everything with IE and return to the Default State.

Hi Lario , many thanks for the helpful reply. much appreciated.

This is what i should have done m8 , as it seems you got away around it without damaging anything like me .....
I have now been able to install the adobe flash player ( via email as i can not download ) But it has made no difference to either firefox or explorer.

Also of note , I do not have that folder in system32 as you showed in your attachment. I am using vista64 so maybe elsewhere but there is no folder for macromedia at all and no flash files like your showing. Something tells me this is where my problem lies.

Many thanks for the imput , any thurther ideas much appreciated.

Clean install of vista is last resort.

Thank you Macro.

The funny thing is that i am able to download this file fine. ! ! ! It downloads @ 1.3MB per sec. Anything else from a website it will not. very odd.
I un packed the file and run the exe. from the latest version 90151 or something it did install and said it was doing some active x installing.

Unfortunately it did not work.

I do appreciate you help macro. Many thanks.

Hi KT.

Yeah , been there dude with no luck. It seems my internet settings mean nothing now. Even if i put them to low it would still say my security settings do not allow this action. ???

I am out of all ideas. I guess i will google some more.

Many thanks KT.

Keep them suggestions comming everyone.

Hey Lario , I did end up finding the folder in vista64 but it was slightly different from your directory in XP.

It seems i have all the correct files , now i am beginning to worry.
