Hi
Well don't get too excited now.

Not sure about anywhere else, but here in the UK. Both LS & LF supported.
What is interesting this time around is that LF s/w inclusive. In the past only LS was. LF came seperately with LF (NEC) enabled drives.

Personally, Nero 7 never lived up to the quality I came to expect from Nero when I started using Nero 3. I did purchase the update to Nero 8 (only 50 bucks) but I am very reluctant to install it. While Nero 7 worked fine on my AMD X2/nForce4 rig, it was unstable on my Core2Duo/P965 system and a friend of mine shared my problems.

I pretty much use ImgBurn for most of my data and video burns and CDRWIN for my Audio CD needs.

I think Nero's bloat got in the way and not too many are excited about what they offer anymore.

Anyone try it out and have any comments about it (good or bad)? It is good to see it was not a 1GB download as it had been speculated.

So far I have used ROM, Express, DiscSpeed and have burned some Video ISOs, some quality scanning and a couple of copy jobs. So far so good, no program hangs or crashes. I think I do like some of the cosmetic changes with smartstart or at least its a refreshing new look.

Kipper, can you provide some specs on your PC? I'm looking to see if anyone is running Nero with ODD's on an Intel system in AHCI mode like me. I have long suspected that was one of my problems with Nero 7, but Nero support was unhelpful and indicated they had not tested it. I have hopes that they got around to it before releasing Nero 8, but they are slim hopes.

I wish I could help you SithTracy but I am running an AMD Operton system and I really like this new Nero 8 , the whole look and feel have changed. Plus every option I have tried works. This is unprecedented for me.

I have an AMD rig as well, but primarily use the C2D. Never had a problem with Nero on the AMD, just on the Intel C2D using AHCI... A friend of mine shares my problems with an almost identical C2D setup.

Thanks Kipper... but are you using the Intel Matrix Storage Manger drivers? If so, you are using your SATA in AHCI mode...

Anyway, I bit the bullet and installed it... Burning ROM worked without crashing, but it reported some data I tried to burn to DVD+R SL was too large to fit when it wasn't... ImgBurn just burned it fine (even the progress bar at the bottom of Nero said it was fine)... The other thing is when I tried a custom disc label, it does not work both the auto and manual radio buttons are on, but the manual iso/joliet names are grayed out.

InfoTool never starts up and eventually the system locks up...

I may try to install it in my AMD rig later tonight or tomorrow. Right now, I'm not too impressed with Nero 8, but it was only 50 bucks for the update.

My rig:

Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi/AP bios 1216
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
1 GB x2 Corsair Dominator RAM (Still running 32-bit Windows XP Pro)
ATI x1950 Pro PCIe GPU
HD WD SATA3.0GB 16MB Buffer 250GB drives x2
Plextor PX-755SA
Samsung SH-S203B
Pioneer DVR-212D
LG GSA-H62N (eSATA on Jmicron)
Integrated Sound
