Default Joining DivX/Xvid Avi Files

When using Convertxtodvd or other Conversion programs it is really annoying how 2 or more files are handled when converting Divx/Avid to DVD.

For example if you have a movie that has been split into 2 files the files get converted as 2 separate entities althought the there is only 1 movie.

The best way to sort this problem is to join the Files before converting to DVD

This is a simple tutorial explaining how to join 2 or more AVI (DivX/ Xvid) files using Virtualdub-mp3-freeze. The mp3-freeze version is a modified virtualdub that can handle VBR mp3 streams within AVI files.

Download Virtualdub-mp3-freeze from Here >>> Download Link

Extract the files to a folder of your choice. These is no install required.

Open Virtualdub-mp3-freeze and change the Audio & Video settings to..

First we will setup the Audio..

Click on the Audio menu and select "AVI audio" / "Direct Stream Copy"

Now to setup the Video...

Click on the Video menu and select "Direct Stream Copy"

Once these the settings have been changed we are ready to start the joining process.

Open the first part of the 2 files to be joined by selecting File on the top menu bar and select "Open video file..."

Select the location where the files are stored and open the first part of the files to be joined.

Now we have to append the second file to be joined by selecting "Append video segment" from the File menu

Select the location where the files are stored and open the second part of the files to be joined.

Repeat the last process until you have all the parts ready to be joined if there are more than 2 parts.

Once you are happy that you have added all the file parts in the correct order we are now ready to create the joined file.

From the File menu select "Save AVI..."

Select the location and file name where the file is to be stored and select "Save"

Progress status window.

This screen dump shows the final single File ready to be converted using your Favourite converter.

Thnx KT. I'll have a look @ this

EDIT
This 1 was based on rather old version of Vdub, 1.4c. Don't think it will make any big difference tho.

Latest version is not always the best ....

All I know this version works for this task ..... I have been using this method for a while with 100% success ..

if the files have VBR MP3 ...

with the newer versions (1.5xx) you have to demux the audio and convert the VBR Mp3 to CBR MP3 and mux the file again ..
if you dont the audio will go out of sync ...

I wished that I could understand what you are talking about. I thought Mux was what you put on rhubarb to make it grow.

How long is this process wouldn't it just be quicker to use Convertxtodvd? or do you get a better joining of the two files doing it this way?

Merging files in VDub is quick. I would say that if u dont plan on adding subtitles when u do the convert in ConvertX so do i recommend this procedure over CX's file merge.
