Question Windows Media Center Conversion to DVD

I recently recorded some movies onto my new Windows media Center PC. What is the best option for getting those movies into DVD format? It's not letting me directly convert them because they are protected. I have the most recent DVD43 installed (Will that do me any good since the files are in Windows own format)?

Thanks

Why are Slysoft Products the number 1 users choice ? ....
AnyDVD works in the background to automatically remove the copy protection of a DVD movie as soon as it's inserted into the drive, allowing you then to backup the movie using a DVD backup tool such as CloneDVD / CloneDVD mobile / 1ClickDVDCopy . You can also remove the RPC region code.

I would do a search using the format as the search criteria and I am sure you will find all sorts of info in regards to others that have had the same problem...

I can't remember the name of the format at the moment.

No siggy needed!
Thanks KT!

The file types are dvr-ms files created by Windows Media Center.

The video contained in a DVR-MS file is encoded as MPEG-2 video stream so this shouldnt really be a problem .

there are loads of software capable of converting this format ....

http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/

..... im sure there will be some free ones too...but i have got to go to work !!

You might find this interesting reading regarding converting these files:

Look Here:

MPEG 2 Decoder: An MPEG 2 decoder allows you to play and work with DVR-MS files. You can download a free MPEG 2 decoder from a link on the above link.

Hope this helps

Unfortunately Convertxtodvd does not do that good of a job converting these DVR-MS files to DVD format. I just tried it. And also most software that I tried will not convert these files, due to copyright laws I guess.Have you tried to burn to disc using Windows Media Player? Maybe it will burn as .wmv files and then it should be easier to convert. Thats a bit of a shot in the dark but might work.

But try a search as they've suggested and you might just get a hit.

No I hadn't, but will test out some conversions with it and report back the results.

I just tried it out and unfortunatly it lost some quality. About the same results a VSOs' Convertxtodvd, which also converted the dvr-ms files.
But the worst thing about this was that it took 10 mins to convert a 1 min Media Center capture.

1Click DivxToDVD converted an 'entire' 7 gb movie capture from mpeg2 to DVD format in only 10 mins or so, and the quality loss was almost undetectable.

So it might be best to capture your TV movies using another capture program than media center. But if slyles wants to stick with Media center and capture the dvr-ms format, then I would say that Convertxtodvd might be a better option because of the time Digital Media Converter took.
