There is nothing that comes close to ConvertX in my opinion.

Dont forget to have a look @ this little document. It contains a lot of useful info etc. that's not in the Official manual.

Here is a tip alot of people don't seem to realize...did you know that you can burn your .AVI files on a DVD using Nero using DATA-DVD format and, this saves you time
in converting them. But, in order for your DVD Player to play .AVI files of your DATA-DVD disc is to make sure your DVD Player states on the machine: (DIVX Certified playback) if thats stated on your DVD playback device then, burn your .AVi files as DATA DVD instead and, save on conversion time

But converting the Avi files or what have you puts the chapters back so when playing on your Dvd player its just like an original thats one of the things I love about Convertxtodvd and if you just burn the AVI files like to a CD-R and have a divx certified player it will play fine but you loose the ability to skip ahead ect..a pain if you have to leave the room for a bit and want to go back to where you stopped watching the film.

VSO's ConvertXtoDVD3 is the best program to do this with by far. It is consistantly updated and does the job in half the time of the others. This is just my personal opinion.
