When entering a source dvd the ripper automatically detects the correct drive, if you have more than one drive you have no need to set it them up to source and destination, I even inserted a blank dvd 5 trying to find a fault but the attempt failed as it recognized the source correctly.
While the dvd was being ripped I decided to focus on the options selecting the themes there are currently 5 skins to choose from which in my book is always a valid feature as it gives the user a extra customization feature and in a way a way to personalize - I flicked through these while the rip was is in progress no need to stop and start the application or the current task.
For my first rip I selected rip and compress to a dvd5 after reading old bikers review on imgburn I indeed wanted to test this great feature .I opted for movie only with compression which was compressed to 4.38gb (x-men2)… no problem with the rip, it took around 24mins with my Norton antivirus disabled.
For my next test using the same source, I chose split dvd to x 2 discs but this time multi tasking by viewing
www.ultimate-dvdr.com , typing a word document and also with the antivirus enabled and using my image capture program I was surprised the rip took less time than the movie only RIP approximate time 18mins 40 secs .
To burn these files I decided to use 1click dvd selecting the folder as source, as I opened the source folder created by magic ripper instantly you notice two folders labelled disc 1 and disc 2. the first being 3.25gb the second being 3.gb for this particular movie. You are prompted to insert the other disc with a insert disc 2 message that appears on the screen when viewing the backup.
A good feature, but again not my cup of tea with the availability of dual layer
media being widely available but still a bit pricey.
For my third crack at this so far so good ripper I have chosen copy disc fully but with compression instead of movie only I also have changed the source disc to a Disney movie / cartoon that is far from perfect in the scratches stakes as the damage to this disc is easily noticeable title of dvd was POCAHONTAS. I also tried the pause feature during this process does exactly that,
pause…………………………………………..start.
This dvd took 37mins 28secs to rip. Backed the files up using
CloneDVD2
without a hitch the funny thing is the ripper makes the same noise as
CloneDVD when they are successful .
For my final run with magic ripper I decided to convert a movie to avi , but unfortunately I didn’t have the divx codec’s installed but they can be easily found for download on the magic ripper web page
http://www.magicdvdripper.com/download/DivX412Codec.exe
After installing the codec, just simply run the download from where you have saved it on your pc and hey presto you are ready to go select convert and the file type you wish to proceed with. The conversion time took around 40mins this was using a dvd that was already a backup from a previous rip totalling 380mb (avi) … after I converted it to avi I simply converted it back using
Convertxtodvd, once again this program delivered the goods in perfect condition
all in all i cannot find a bad thing to say about this ripper ive tested this to death and i could go on for ever... the fact is this is good in fact EXCELLENT
