Default IE7 Release Date Revealed: October 18th

Didn't really know where to post this but thought you all would like to know this.

According to one of Microsoft’s bloggers the release date for Internet Explorer 7 appears to be October 18th. For those of you grabbing for your calendar I’ll let you know that it is next Wednesday…a day after Mozilla plans on shipping Firefox 2 RC3.

The new IE7 will then be delivered via Automatic Updates starting on November 1, which is exactly two-weeks after the official release. They recommend that users test their site to ensure that it is compatible with IE7 by downloading the RC1 that was made available a few months back. If you are still skeptical about installing it or plan on never using it then you may want to use the IE7 Automatic Delivery Blocker that Microsoft provides.

I do have to admit that I am glad to see Internet Explorer getting tabs simply because I don’t have easy access to Firefox wherever I go. I have it installed on my USB drive but sometimes I don’t feel like pulling it out and waiting for Windows to install the necessary drivers that are needed to use it. At least now I will have a decent tabbed browser available, of course, that is assuming that the places I usually visit don’t block the automatic installation.

Does anyone have reservations about downloading E7? Can it cause any problems with software? I also have Firefox and plan to update that one as well. I have downloaded all updates (the second Tuesday of each month) by Microsoft.

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 with Windows XP.

I have been using ie7 since first released as a beta and have yet to find a site that it does not support. The tabbed browsing works flawlessly which was something I did not like about Firefox. I don't know why but Firefox just did not feel right to me.

No siggy needed!
Thanks KT!

I use FF too and I have it set to open in a new window instead of seeing those tabs.

I read yesterday that IE7 creates problems for Roixo 9 users by not letting them register the software and codecs; that could be a good thing, at least it will keep Roxio off their systems. LOL

Roxio is one software I really never liked it has its uses though just not enough for me to keep on using it.

The only issue, thusfar, installing IE7 over IE6, was getting an Error 0x8024001D while trying to run Windows Update. The following input I got from Windows Update Forum:

"Go to C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution and rename the folders DataStore and
Download. Try the update again. You can remove the renamed folders if
everything works.

That is what I got when searched around for error 0x8024001d.

For the benefit of the community reading this post, please rate the pºst.

I hope this post is helpful."

It surely worked for myself and IE7, without a doubt on this end, is running quite smooth....

I have SBC Yahoo DSL and from what an SBC tech person told me is that their browser is just a skin over IE, but for a while whenever I tried to manulay download MS updates I would get an error and the page would close, but if I used theregular IE browser I would have no problems.

TPLAT....

Also got this from the same Windows Update forum:

"The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.

0x8024001D -2145124323 WU_E_INVALID_UPDATE

an update had bogus metadata Clear out your temporary internet files. Remove WU downloads from the temporary folder:- Stop the Automatic Updates service Click Start, Choose Run. In the Run box, type services.msc. Click OK. Right-click the Automatic Updates service. Click Stop. Stopping the service will take a moment. Delete the contents of the Download folder Click Start. Choose Run. In the Run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution Click OK. Open the Download folder. Delete all contents of the Download folder. Close the window. Start the Automatic Updates service Click Start. Choose Run. In the Run box, type services.msc. Click OK. Right-click the Automatic Updates service. Click Start. Starting the service will take a moment. By deleting the contents of the Download folder - you have removed any downloaded updates. If that doesn't work then you'll need to rename the softwaredistribution folder: Renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder Click Start, Choose Run. In the Run box, type services.msc. Click OK. Right-click the Automatic Updates service. Click Stop. Stopping the service will take a moment. Rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder: a. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%, and then click OK. b. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename. c. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this folder. Click Start. Choose Run. In the Run box, type services.msc. Click OK. Right-click the Automatic Updates service. Click Start. Starting the service will take a moment. Note: by renamining the softwaredistribution folder, you'll lose your history but that's not important."

This may be of some info for you or others.... I for one, don't have a problem editing the Registry, but other folks may....

Cheers....
